Typical Walks (Subject to change):- 12.8km (7.9 Miles) 215m ascent/ descent. Starting and finishing at the Hotel in Criccieth, we set off inland to Mynedd Ednyfed Fawr passing the golf course on the way. Now following various local footpaths we continue eastwards to pick up the interesting path that follows the Afon Dwyfor all the way to Llanstumdwy giving us chance to view the David Lloyd George museum before continuing on our way towards the sea. Here we join the Afon again, this time on its final flow out to sea. Finally we follow the shoreline until arriving at Criccieth 11.4 km (7.1 Miles) 511m ascent/ descent. We take transport to Llyn Dinas North east of Beddgelert and start our walk up into the Grib Ddu area. Here we can explore some of the old copper mining remains. We then continue up to Bwlch Sygun - the ascent now over for the day - we can enjoy grand views down to Porthmadog and beyond as well as over to mountains such as Cnicht. We continue on, downhill now, to Pont Aberglaslyn. The next leg of the walk takes us along the beautiful Afon Glaslyn following both the river and the newly reinstated Welsh Highland Railway. This brings us to the very pretty village of Beddgelert for lunch – we will allow plenty of time for guests to enjoy looking around before continuing our journey along the river, passing both Sygun Copper mine Tourist centre and Llyn Dinas to finish at Nantgwynant. 12.3 km (7.6 Miles) 573m ascent. 707m decent. Starting our walk at Rhyd-Ddu we start up the old Miners trail with Snowdon Mountain directly ahead. The path gradually rises with interesting views opening up in all directions. After about an hour we come across the old quarry workings at Bwlch Cwm Llan. After viewing the interesting remains and inclines we continue on, passing the Col – downhill now to Cwm Llan a huge bowl at the foot of Snowdon. We continue down hill passing many beautiful waterfalls as well as Gladstone’s rock. Above Nantgwynant now, the route takes us up again to Bylch Terfyn and continuing down to the very interesting ‘lost Valley’. The walk now follows the Afon-y-cwm, again with waterfalls, to finish at Craflwyn Hall. 9.69km (6.1 Miles) 595m Ascent/Descent. Taking in one of Wales’s classic peaks. Today we start at Croesor setting out to climb the Welsh ‘Matterhorn’ Cnicht. This very pointed Mountain is visible from many areas and is a must do. Starting out along a quarry road we soon leave this to start across grassy paths to rise above the quarry remains. The going now becomes rockier and requires the use of hands in several places – but nothing too difficult – this helps us to gain height quickly and the top is soon reached. After stopping for an hard earned lunch, we continue northeast to skirt around Llyn yr Adar and mostly downhill to Llyn Diffrys and then more steeply down to the Dam above Cwm Croesor. Finally, down hill all the way now to pick up the old Tramway back to Croesor. 12.5 km (7.6 Miles) 950m Ascent /Descent. (Typical). The ascent of Snowdon. Today’s ascent of Snowdon Mountain will depend on the weather and other conditions. Also, we have a choice of routes up and down, but our favoured route would be to ascend either the Rhyd Ddu or Snowdon ranger paths (descending by the other route). These offer a less used and quieter walk, as well as being in very interesting locations, the routes offer spectacular views in all directions. A harder day, but always giving that sense of achievement and satisfaction of ascending Wales’s highest Mountain. A grand finale to a great week! |
